Constitution Memorial Day

The Final Curtain

Constitution Memorial Day is a possible date clue in Kyoichiro Kaga’s attempt to interpret a calendar reminder associated with Ichikokubashi Bridge and Mutsuo Koshikawa. Kaga rejects the holiday as an explanation: although May 3 falls within the month assigned to the bridge, he finds no link between the day and that particular location.

The Date as a Clue

Kaga reasons that when April turned to May, Koshikawa would have flipped the calendar page and seen a reminder for Ichikokubashi Bridge. The bridge is identified as the one for May, but this monthly correspondence does not establish which day Koshikawa might have had in mind. Asked for a date, Kaga says he does not know and offers possibilities rather than a conclusion.

Why May 3 Is Ruled Out

Constitution Memorial Day falls on May 3. Kaga explicitly dismisses it as a useful explanation because he cannot find any connection between the public holiday and Ichikokubashi Bridge. He also considers May 5, Children’s Day, but likewise says he can find no link between that holiday and the bridge. The exchange therefore distinguishes the calendar’s broad month-to-bridge pattern from the still-unresolved question of a specific date.

Role in the Investigation

The holiday is not presented as the answer to the calendar puzzle; it marks a hypothesis tested and set aside. Kaga’s uncertainty keeps the inquiry open, while the movement onward from Ichikokubashi Bridge toward Nishigashibashi Bridge leaves Matsumiya looking for another connection between a bridge and its assigned month.
